Tiger Woods announced Tuesday he is stepping away from professional golf to seek treatment following his arrest on driving under the influence charges after a rollover crash in Florida last week.

The 50-year-old golf legend entered a written plea of not guilty through his attorneys in Martin County court, hours before releasing his first public statement about the incident that occurred Friday on Jupiter Island.

I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.

According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office incident report released Tuesday, Woods was traveling at high speeds when his Land Rover clipped a truck and rolled onto its side. Deputies found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket and observed him displaying signs of impairment.

The report detailed Woods' condition at the scene, describing his movements as slow and lethargic while sweating profusively with dilated pupils. When asked about prescription medications, Woods told deputies he takes "a few" and had taken prescription drugs earlier that morning.
